Where to sleep in Budapest: Best Areas and Accommodation
Finding accommodation in a city is often one of the first headaches when preparing a trip. That’s why, after having been to Budapest 3 times, we want to recommend you the best areas and places to stay in Budapest.
We will try to give you several options by area, for all budgets and tastes, but whenever we make recommendations of this type, we usually do it by quality-price criteria, trying to get something with a good score and that can be affordable, and, above all, trying that you can easily move around the attractions of the city saving on transport and time.
The places to stay in Budapest that we are going to recommend are all going to be in Pest, because as you know, the city is divided into two areas, Buda and Pest, with Buda being a more local area and with less tourist attractions, especially the deeper you go in.
That said, let’s get to the best accommodation options in Budapest.

ToggleAccommodation in Budapest, District V, Belváros
District V of Budapest corresponds to the Belváros-Lipótváros area. It is probably the most central area of Pest, where you will find most of the movement, shops, restaurants and important streets.
It is a perfect place to stay as the main attractions of the city are close by. St. Stephen’s Basilica is within this area and places like the Parliament, the shoes on the Danube or the emblematic squares like Freedom Square, are in the area or at maximum 10-15 walking distance.
The main disadvantage is that the price is a bit higher as it is in the city centre and there is a bit more hustle and bustle (nothing too much at night).
Accommodation recommendations in the District V
(€) Suzan’s apartment in the heart of Budapest: Apartment located in the heart of the V district, with a very reasonable price and all the advantages of a flat: full kitchen, dining area, sofa… It can accommodate up to 4 people, so it is a good option for families. A good choice for accommodation in Budapest.
(€€) H2 Hotel Budapest: Very new hotel, with a medium price but with well-kept rooms and very comfortable appearance. It has a cool terrace, parking and air conditioning.
(€€€) Prestige Hotel Budapest: 4-star hotel with an unbeatable location, about 300 metres from the Chain Bridge. It has a good restaurant with options for any meal and fully equipped and very new rooms.
Accommodation in Budapest, District VI, Jewish Quarter
The Jewish Quarter is one of the most emblematic and also recommended as accommodation in Budapest.
As main advantages, this neighbourhood has a great gastronomic offer, it is close to most of the important places in the city (10-20 walking distance to most of them), it has a great nightlife (many ruin bars in the area) and, in addition, a great historical load, especially in WWII (take the tour of the area if you are interested in knowing more).
On our last trip to the city, we stayed in this area and we were very happy because we were able to get around easily and it is very well connected to walk anywhere.
Although it is on the edge of the area, the best part of the district to stay in is Astoria, as it has the perfect metro system for getting around and is closer to the river, making it easier to get to the city’s attractions.
Accommodation Recommendations in the District VI
(€) Elisabeth Downtown Apartments: We stayed here on our last visit to Budapest and the experience was great. It is a very new flat with an interior and quite protected enclosure that is very well equipped and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything you need and even has space to work. The bed and the room are very comfortable too.
(€) Florin Aparthotel: Located right in Astoria, in front of the Synagogue, this aparthotel is very good value for money. It is equipped with a kitchen, living area and all the comforts of a flat. Breakfast is available for €15 and, according to the reviews, it’s very good.
(€€€) Queen’s Court Hotel: For those who want maximum comfort and quality, this hotel has a spa inside with an indoor pool and whirlpool. It also has a high quality restaurant. It is located in the heart of the Jewish quarter, so it is a very good choice for accommodation in Budapest.
Accommodation in Budapest, District IX, Ferencvaros
We would recommend this place as we stayed here the first time we went and we think it is a very good choice of accommodation in Budapest. The Ferencvaros district is a bit big and we wouldn’t recommend staying just anywhere as it would take us a bit far from the main attractions of the city, so we would always recommend places close to the Budapest Central Market and Freedom Bridge.
The advantages of this location are that you are close to other points of interest, as you have the Freedom Bridge in front of you which connects directly to Mount Gellert and it’s about a 30-40 minute walk along the Parliament waterfront.
Even though it is in the heart of the city, it is not as central as the other two, but you can probably find better prices due to its location.
Accommodation recommendations in the District IX
(€) Apartment Váci: Apartment located very close to the Central Market, equipped with kitchen, washing machine and a double bed in one room. One of the best value for money accommodation options you’ll find in Budapest.
(€€) Bohem Art Hotel: A rather curious hotel, as it is set in an art gallery, so it is a beautiful and nicely decorated hotel. It is also perfectly located and connected to the key points of the city and has the possibility of breakfast.
(€€€) Hotel Vision: Top hotel with all kinds of services, including a fitness room, sauna and parking. This is a slightly more expensive option but not overpriced for those looking for a good location and good facilities and comfort. Top choice for accommodation in Budapest.
Map of areas and places
Budapest may have quite a few areas for accommodation (such as district VI or Varosliglet Park), but we believe that the ones we have recommended are the best and closest to the Danube and points of interest.
If you have any questions about accommodation, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to answer them.
