As usual, we will try to give you several options per area, for all budgets and tastes, but whenever we make recommendations of this type, we usually do it by quality-price criteria, trying to get something with a good score and that can be affordable, and, above all, trying that you can easily move around the attractions of the city saving on transport and time.

That said, let’s go to the best options where to stay in Lisbon.
Where to stay in Lisbon: Barrio Alto
On our first visit to Lisbon, we decided to stay in this area of the city, the Barrio Alto area. Nowadays, it’s a very lively area (very good, actually), so it may not be for everyone. We didn’t go there, but we loved the area and didn’t have any noise or problems. Also, it is not too far from the main attractions of the city centre, although it is not too far from areas like Belem.
This is why we would like to recommend Barrio Alto as a great place to stay in Lisbon.
Recommended Accommodation in Barrio Alto
(€€) Independente Principe Real : The truth is that we found this hotel to be super top. We were able to stay in our 4 days in Lisbon and the truth is that we give it top marks. Well located, very good restaurant, super full and tasty breakfast, very cool decor and a room of 10. We put it in the mid-price range because you can find a bed in a shared room for little money or in a private room for a little more, so there are options for everything.
( €) Local House Lisbon: They are quite complete rooms with private bathroom in a good area. The quality-price ratio is the best you can find in the Barrio Alto area, so it’s a good opportunity. I put average price as there are cheaper options in the city, but not many in the neighbourhood.
(€) Lisb’On Hostel: It is a bit below Barrio Alto, but just below, so we include it here. This is a hostel where you can find shared rooms at the lowest price in the city. The reviews are good, the location is unbeatable and it’s very well kept and new, so it’s a great option.
Where to stay in Lisbon: Chiado-Baixa
This is Lisbon’s most central and commercial neighbourhood. It is one of the most important areas and also one of the best places to where to stay in Lisbon because of its proximity to everything and because it is a very good area.
They are adjacent to each other, the area is between Rossio Square and Commerce Square, also close to the famous Santa Justa elevator, so you can see that it is totally the nerve centre of the city.
It’s very safe, so don’t worry, as many times city centres are not the best places, but in this case they are.
Recommended Accommodation in Chiado-Baixa
(€) Lisbon Lounge Hostel: As the cheapest option on the list, we will leave a hostel, with the option of shared beds, the cheapest option where to stay in Lisbon. This hostel has very good reviews, is 6 minutes away from Rossio Square, in the centre, and is very well kept. You also have the option of a buffet breakfast.
(€) We Love F Tourists: Also very close to Rossio Square, this is another hostel with views of the whole of Lisbon and with the option of sharing or single beds. In this case, it’s a bit more expensive but the hostel is better equipped and has very cool facilities.
(€€€) Chiado Arty Flats: A great option although at a higher price. This accommodation is a super cool and renovated flat. It’s probably one of the best reviewed options (9.3 with 3k) you can find, so it’s an unbeatable option if you want a little more comfort. Also, they have flats with views of the city, which is very top in Lisbon.
Where to stay in Lisbon: Alfama
Alfama is our favourite neighbourhood in the city. It probably doesn’t have the convenience in terms of proximity and transport that the two previous options have, but if we were to return, we would stay there as it is the most authentic neighbourhood and the coolest place in Lisbon for us.
It is a neighbourhood located east of Chiado-Baixa, but quite centrally located and not far from the river, so in terms of location it is also unbeatable. Moreover, as we have mentioned, it is one of the best neighbourhoods in Lisbon in terms of history and sightseeing, so for us it is a great option where to stay in Lisbon. It has very emblematic places such as the Cathedral, viewpoints, a very famous market on Saturdays and thousands of interesting corners.
Recommended Accommodation in Alfama
(€) Small Hostel Studio: Cheaper option in the area and very well located. It is a simple flat at a great price in the heart of Alfama, equipped with everything you need in a flat (kitchen, bathroom, wifi…). Great option at a great price.
(€) Hotel Convento do Salvador: A hotel in the middle of Alfama with great facilities. Probably the best located of the three as it is just a stone’s throw from the Tagus River, so it is excellent in terms of communication with other areas. It has a very good breakfast for 12 €.
(€€€) Lisbon Best Choice Prime Apartments Alfama: An unbeatable option in Alfama. They are very new flats, very large and with all the amenities. The truth is that they are luxurious and it is one of the most notable accommodations in the area so we recommend it as a place where to stay in Lisbon.
